Description

"The Western Veil Nebula, NGC 6960, part of the Cygnus Loop, which is a Type 2a supernova in the constellation Cygnus. Theh source supernova was a star ~20x the mass of the Sun which exploded between 10,0000 to 20,000. At the time of the explosion, the supernova would have appeared brighter than Venus, and visible in daytime. Approximately 24,000 lightyears from Earth. The central star, while cooling, is hot enough to be visible across the spectrum from IR to X-rays, including the visible spectrum. This radiation is ionizing oxygen and hydrogen in the gas clouds thrown off the the supernova explosion."
