Gamm Cass, 550 ly from us, is an interesting star in its own right.   It is blue white, not quite a giant being 19 times brighter than the sun, yet 65,000 times as bright according to the ESA.   It also spins at a tremendous rate, although its spin rate is hard to pin down as the ESA quotes spin in miles/hr for some reason (should be in rotations/day, degrees/day or even better – radians/day).
The star is always bright, but is unpredictably variable.   This is likely due to a molecular cloud that surrounds the star a variably blocks some of the light.  Parts of the cloud form the nebula we know as the Ghost of Cassiopeia that is a composite of reflected starlight and emitted light from the cloud, energized by radiation from the star.   The emissions from the star are eroding and pushing the cloud away, forming the ghostly patterns of unstable displacement.
A series of [OIII] frames were obtained, but not used in the creation of this image, as they contained no information that was not contained in the Blue and Green filter results.
Gamma Cass is not related to Momma Cass who was also a star known for her singing about stars - shining and fading.
