Description

I brought my AT92 along on my trip to a dark site to do some visual observations with a friend who has been fascinated by the hobby.  I stuck my ASI462MC in the diagonal to plate solve and center my objects and then swapped it out for my eyepieces.  We enjoyed looking at some nice targets and he got some really nice images with his Galaxy S23 with AP mode and using a cellphone eyepiece adapter.  Once we were done with our observations I felt it was just a shame to have a perfectly good scope in a beautiful clear night and not put it to work.

Having nothing else available but the ASI462MC I stuck it back in the diagonal and pointed it at M51.  With no IR cut filter, no flattener, not connecting at prime focus, and having focused manually my expectations were not high.  Well the rig ran for over 3hrs all while keeping the target pretty well centered, focused, and with great tracking until the battery ran out.  After calibrating, stacking, and processing the results have exceeded my expectations for my little camera that most of the time is stored away waiting for a planet or  moon to shoot.  Needless to say I will be having more fun with my 462MC.
