Description

The ‘tail’ area of Scorpius lies across a rich area of the Milky Way, not far from the galactic centre. This
wide-field detail view features the two emission nebulae, NGC 6334 (‘Cat’s Paw’) and NGC 6357
(‘War and Peace’), together with several star clusters, most notibly, M6/NGC 6405 (‘Butterfly Cluster’)
in the upper-left. The two bright stars at bottom-centre are Shaula (λ Sco) and Lesath (υ Sco), left
to right. They form part of the scorpion’s ‘stinger’.

Telescope: Canon EF 70-200mm lens + 1.4x extender @ f=100mm
Camera:     ZWO ASI183MC Pro, no filter
                    section of 2x2 mosaic, each frame 25 x 300sec
                    Bortle 3-4 sky, moonless
Field of View: approx. 8º 20’ x 5º 50’
