Description

The Eagle Nebula, also known as Messier 16 (M16), is an active star-forming region in the constellation Serpens.

Located at a distance of around 7,000 light-years away from Earth, the Eagle Nebula is best known because of the iconic Pillars Of Creation, which was famously imaged by the Hubble Space Telescope.

The Pillars of Creation appear relatively small within the nebula itself, but in actuality, they are larger than our entire solar system.

Captured from the backyard in Kalgoorlie, Western Australia this image comprises almost 18hrs of total integration over the course of several weeks using a Sky-Watcher Quattro 10" f4 Newtonian Reflector I had on loan at the time.

Post-processing was carried out using PixInsight, Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom as I experimented with a number of techniques in an attempt to draw out some of the finer details within the structure.
