Description

I have initially recorded the RGB data during two partial nights in January 2024.
Update 21 March 2024: recorded and added the Ha signal.

NGC 3359
It is a barred spiral galaxy located 59 million light-years from Earth, in the constellation of Ursa Major. The central bar is approximately 500 million years old.
NGC 3559 is stripping gas to a the much smaller galaxy SDSS J104442.66+630602.0 , nicknamed the Little Cub, whose position is highlighted in our annotated version here.
A Phys.org article describing the matter stripping phenomenon is here.

Picture: NGC 3359 appears to be devouring a much smaller gas-rich dwarf galaxy, nicknamed the Little Cub, which contains 10,000 times fewer stars than its larger companion. The contour lines show where the gas is being stripped from the Little Cub, whose stars are located in the central blue circle. Credit: SDSS Collaboration
