Description

The learning curve continues.  I discovered that even though my last shot of M31 came out acceptable that was mostly due to luck.  I had inadvertently turned off  DEC guiding and I did notice a drift of my images when I BLINKED them in PI.  Because the tracking alone on my AM5 and the registration of PI worked so well they saved me.  How's that saying go? "You want an omelette you have to break some eggs".  So last night I corrected my guiding and the subs showed that the guiding was spot on.  NGC281 is a pretty easy target for my location being not too far away from M31.  I got in 6 hours of subs last night and got this image.  Things on my portable AM5 setup are really working quite nice.  The next learning I need to do is work on pulling a little more variety of colors out of my images.  I'm using a ASI533MC one shot color camera with an Optolong eXtreme dual narrow band filter.  I should be getting some more blues in my images but don't appear at the moment to be doing so.  I don't want to be making fake images.  IMHO I want to be close to real as possible but if there ARE some blues in there I'd like to bring them out better.  The intent of my setup is to be portable.  The assumption here is your out in a remote spot and you only have one evening to get your shot so a 5x or 7x FW on a mono camera is not an option.  I'd like to stay with a color camera and my filter drawer.  I can do 1 maybe two sets of filtered images but no more than that.  Any suggestions would be welcome!
