Description

NGC 7479 (also Caldwell 44) is a barred spiral galaxy, about 105 light years away. It was discovered by William Hershel in 1784.

It is unusual in that, at radio frequencies, it has a jet of radiation that bends in the opposite direction to the stars and dust in the arms of the galaxy [1]. It is thought that this anomaly could have resulted from a merger with another galaxy, which might also explain its considerable star forming activity, not only in the arms but also in the central disc.

The image was taken using the 16" F6.8 corrected Dall Kirkham using a ZWO 2600mm and Baader LRGB filters (RoboScopes Pier 9).
Total integration was about 9 hours, Around 4 hours Lum, 2 hours of Ha and 1 hour each of  Red, Green and Blue.
