Description

The Shark Nebula is a dark cloud of interstellar gas and dust located in the constellation of Cepheus. Within this cloud, there are several other interesting objects. The darker area of dust on the top left is LDN 1235, the densest and least transparent area in the entire frame. Additionally, we can see two bright blue reflection nebulae: VdB 150 is located at the top of the image, and the lower nebula is VdB 149. These beautiful reflection nebulae shine with the color of very hot B8IV stars located behind them (relative to the Earth observer, of course). The entirety of this dusty cloud is located approximately 650 light-years away from us. A charming bonus is the two registered galaxies - PGC 67347 located in the lower right corner of the frame, and PGC 67671. The latter is 58 million light-years away from us.
