Description

Visual observation made on 14 September 2015 with a Skywatcher 12” Dobsonian: This is a faint Class X cluster. It has a large halo with a small core. Readily found with Telrad.

Visual observation made on 8 September 2023 with a 22" Obsession UC Dobsonian: M107 is not very concentrated. It appears to have a large dim halo and it does concentrate towards the center, but it remains diffuse. It does not look very spherical. No colors noted. No stars resolved.

I obtained the calibrated lights frames used to create the final image from Telescope Live. The frames were imaged by the CHI-1-CCD Telescope at the El Sauce Observatory.

Note: 80 LY in diameter.

Shapley Sawyer Classification: X
Distance: 20,877 LY
Type: Hub Globular
Position w.r.t. core of galaxy: Above the disc and on the sun side of the core. It is closer to the core than the sun.
Any stars resolved: No
Undergoing Core Collapse: No
