Description

NGC 4565, also known as the Needle Galaxy, is an edge-on spiral galaxy located in the constellation Coma Berenices. It is approximately 30 to 50 million light-years away from Earth. The galaxy gets its nickname, the Needle Galaxy, because when observed in its entirety, it appears as a very narrow streak of light in the sky.NGC 4565 is a prominent example of an edge-on spiral galaxy, meaning that it is oriented perpendicularly to our line of sight. This orientation allows us to see the galaxy's disk and its characteristic needle-like shape. The galaxy has a diameter of about 100,000 light-years, making it roughly the same size as our own Milky Way galaxy.
