Description

Sh2 -224 is a supernova remnant visible in the constellation of Auriga
This object has an unusual shape, with a shell structure with a radius of approximately 25 parsecs, and is interacting with a cavity in the interstellar medium at a higher temperature than the surrounding environment.
The distance of the structure is estimated at 14,700 light years from Earth, in a peripheral region of the Perseus Arm of the Milky Way.
Through X-ray study, the age of the Nebula was determined to be between 13,000 and 24,000 years.
