Description

A member of the Virgo cluster of galaxies, NGC 4535 is one of the largest galaxies in the cluster  (somewhat surprising given that it's a spiral as opposed to an elliptical).   It has a very prominent bar and loosely wound arms.   The galaxy is about 54 million light-years distant.    It was named "the lost galaxy" as a result of its ghostly appearance in small telescopes.
