Four nights of five minute subs on M78, NGC 2064, NGC 2067, NGC 2068 and NGC 2071. Three nights LRGB and one night HSO. RGB and HSO combined with APP RGBHSO.

I used Graxpert on the RBG and Lum images instead of my usual APP BackgroundCalibration and/or DBE. Graxpert removed more of the faint nebulosity. This seemed to leave more detail in the fainter gas and dust in the background.

I also used EZ SoftStretch instead of GHS on this one. It did a good job of stretching so I just went with it on both RGB and Lum images.

SPCC was used for initial color cal. I did shift the colors a bit with Curves and PS for the nebula. The stars use the SPCC color.

Looking at some other M78 images here, I see that many have spent a lot of time post-processing. I did as well and may reprocess this with DBE and GHS. I did use these in some iterations with less data (after 1,2,3 nights). I will post a revision using these techniques to show the difference from one of my earlier (less data) attempts.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
