Description

Although more commonly referred to as IC 1848, the Soul Nebula is perhaps more accurately known as Westerhout 5 (also Sh2-199 and LBN 667).  IC 1848 is actually the prominent open cluster in the lower left of this nebulosity, which, in this orientation, would be the back leg of the bear; special thanks to  @Steven DeGroot for his posting of The Bear and the Bee,  as I'd never appreciated that imagery before!  Located in Cassiopeia, the Soul Nebula is an emission nebula that also contains several other small open clusters in the head of the bear, while the bee in front of the bear on the far right of this image is Sh2-201 and  the round nebulosity in the upper left is Sh2-198.
