Description

LDN1235 is a dark nebula in Cepheus. It is also home to two reflection nebula cataloged as VdB 149 & 150. Commonly called the Shark Nebula, LDN1235 is a large star forming molecular cloud. Massive young stars in the cloud effectively sculpt the cloud using radiative and stellar wind energy, forming the wispy structure and holes in the cloud. . The reddish color of the nebula  is due to the high stellar heat essentially evaporating parts of the the cloud,  causing the scattered  hydrogen to glow red.

LDN1235 is approximately 650 LY from Earth, and is 15 LY across.
