Description

Image processing to an inch of dataset's life for bringing out the thin gas threads. It put some artifacts around stars and color aberration; my tradeoff until someone can do a better terrestrial capture. Still pretty amazing even modest equipment in dense atmosphere can reveal.

NGC1947 is running low on star-making material so it'll keep fading away over time. Not many terrestrial images exist on the web - tiny target near SCP. What remains of the galaxy’s spiral arms can be made out as faint dark bands from three o'clock to eight o'clock. Those thin threads of gas appear banded together at this resolution. Hubble image (approx 60 ° clockwise) for comparison.
