Description

NGC 4696 is an elliptical galaxy. It lies around 145 million light years away in the constellation Centaurus. It is the brightest galaxy in the Centaurus Cluster. NGC 4709, smaller and to the right is also an elliptical galaxy at a distance of 150 million light years. While these are unremarkable compared to larger more  colourful galaxies elsewhere in the universe,  I find the backdrop of the Centaurus cluster beautiful and really interesting. Imaged under my Bortle 6 sky and a 50% waning crescent moon.
