The Rosette, one of my favorite emission nebulas as a newby a year ago since it was bright enough to capture good detail with my stock Canon 60D and 400mm lens. This time around I wanted to see how much more I could get after I modified my 60D for full spectrum, and using my biggest lens (Canon 500mm f4) with a dual narrowband filter (IDAS NBZ). I'm pretty happy with the results! This lens has quite a bit of coma though, so star shapes aren't good. I shot them through the narrowband filter anyhow so their colors aren't perfect either. I may yet try and take RGB stars with a different lens and combine.

I did 3 versions of the Rosette, the first using the RGB channels as is, the second as Ha-HOO and lastly an HHO version which looked kind of weird and I am only allowed two uploads so didn't include that one. Between the two included here, I cannot decide which version I like better. I think I kind of prefer the 'original' version, its a bit more natural, stars came out much better, though I do like the greater color contrast that's in the second one so I marked it as final.

Edit: I originaly showed only about 4hrs of exposure. I think I forgot to include the second day in the stats, I went back in and beleive I have it correct now, about 8hrs of exposure.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
