Description

My 1st outing of 2023, hoping to capture some good data of what has been an elusive aspect of Mars this apparition, namely the iconic view of Syrtis Major. At last I had good, albeit variable, seeing and a clear sky for approximately 4 hours from 9pm 2 Jan through to just after 1am 3 Jan, though the seeing detoriated somewhat after midnight, as Mars lost altitude.
I captured over 220Gb of data in more than 20x6 min SER files. These I processed through AS3! for best 20k frames each (from approx 120k frames per SER), then de-rotated the groups of 2 or 3 wavelet sharpened TIFFs in WinJupos to produce five separate images of the event.
Three of those images relate to data captured before midnight and are displayed together in a separate post dated 3 Jan https://www.astrobin.com/7wtjy2/, the other two were captured after midnight, so are displayed here.
NB: Acquisition details in Astrobin are for the first image, with the time stamp and CM being for the first image. The 2nd image comprised 40k frames from 2x6 SERs. Full capture details are as per image annotation.
