Description

NGC 772 is a notable spiral galaxy in the constellation Aries.
Its apparent dimensions are 7.2'x4.3': considering that its estimated distance is 115 million light years, its real extension is 240,000 light years, more than double that of our Milky Way!
The galaxy displays an asymmetric spiral structure, dominated by a bright blue arm that contains almost all active regions with young stars.
NGC 772 is clearly interacting with the nearby and bright galaxy NGC 770: one of the effects of this interaction is a tidal tail that extends from NGC 770 in the opposite direction to NGC 772, clearly visible in the image.
Countless other galaxies are visible throughout the field, in addition to the faint IFN belonging to our galaxy.
