Description

This is a starless (well, almost) image of the Clamshell Nebula, Sh2-119.  It was captured as a two panel mosaic in both Bortle 6 and Bortle 3 skies and processed with a standard narrowband SHO palette.  Ha stars were added to only the central oxygen region of the nebula to give the appearance that the nebula acts as a window into the space beyond it.

Sharpless 119 is located in Cygnus and is just 2 degrees over from the much brighter North American nebula.  The prominent star is 'A Cyg' which is the primary energy source for this emission nebula.
