Description

Here we have a crack at Saturn as I continue my planetary tour, haha!

For this image, I got a little extra focal length by using a 2.5x PowerMate in place of the 2x Barlow I used with my Jupiter images. On this night, the seeing was considerably worse than in previous nights but I wanted to try anyhow. I did learn that the 2.5x Powermate can work well and that the pixel scale is likely appropriate. Hopefully I get a chance with better seeing in the coming days.

On this image, I did 10 runs of 1'50" each at 64fps at gain 410 to achieve an ~80% histogram during capture. As in my previous Jupiter images, I am still trying to learn how to correctly process the data and I performed the processing a number of different ways. I may be missing something in winJupos as well, and Saturn is a bit more complicated than Jupiter in terms of proper alignment of the images.

This one turned out to be the best 20% of the stacks de-rotated in WinJupos. One of the big lessons I think I have learned is that many a good image of mine has been spoiled by being too aggressive with wavelet sharpening in Registax. For me, an iterative approach for sharpening seems to be a much better way of doing this. I also did the NR and sharpening of the rings and the planet separately.

So another small step forward, hope you like it and comments and criticism always welcome!
