Description

With many objects I know what I'm going for. Plenty of great renditions can be found on AstroBin or other places online. This project was different.

I was originally planning to go for NGC 7023, the Iris Nebula, one of my favorite DSOs. But also an object that has been imaged plenty of times - more and more I enjoy to go exploring and being surprised by the results. In the last moment I changed my mind and searched for an intriguing formation of dust nearby, simply by navigating through the DSS2 survey. There is plenty of dust clouds in this area of the sky. This particular formation caught my eye, as it has different intensities and brightness of dust clouds. The shapes around LDN 1152 and LDN 1157 gives the scene a certain “milk in coffee” dynamic structure.. On the other side LDN 1147/1148 have a wispy, blurry touch to it. I was also surprised to find the red structure near LDN 1152 isn’t a star shrouded by the dust, but the galaxy PGC2708838.
As the formation with its contrasting manner doesn’t fit into my field of view, this dusty adventure premiered as my first mosaic.
This is a 1x2 mosaic with around 25 hours of integration on each of them. The stich was performed with the PhotometricMosaic in Pixinsight. By coincidence The Astro Imaging Channel (TAIC) had had a helpful and interesting contribution by Jose Mtanous in May, which made me confident I would find my way around the processes in Pixinsight.
Also dark nebulae and dust formations still are quite a processing challenge to me, so if anyone can point me to good guides on these kind of objects, please do.

Enjoy and CS
