Description

NGC3938 is a beautiful face-on spiral galaxy in the Constellation Ursa Major at an approximate distance of 43 Million Light Years. It contains a lot of gas and dust, precipitating a lot of star formation. What seems to be somewhat unique about this galaxy is the quite heavy star formation activity at the extremities of the spiral arms of an otherwise typical spiral galaxy of this type. This could be resulting from the gravitational effects of other galaxies in the Ursa Major South Galaxy Group, but no evidence of that effect has been thus far detected.
