Andromeda Galaxy & M31

Description

Very proud of this one. Actually, I guess proud isn't the word, more like surprised. First time stacking M31, and figured I'd frame it with the corresponding constellation. So here is a portion of the Andromeda constellation, along with the Andromeda Galaxy off in the distance.

The Andromeda Galaxy (M31 or NGC 224) is a spiral-type galaxy located about 2.5 million light years from Earth. It is the nearest spiral galaxy to the Milky Way, however not the nearest galaxy overall. In 2006, calculations were made using the Spitzer Space Telescope to determine that there were at least twice the number of stars in the Andromeda galaxy (1 trillion) compared to our own (200-400 billion). Our galaxy is expected to collide with M31 in about 3.75 billion years. THAT would be quite a show!!!

Being that the Andromeda Galaxy is about 2.5 million light years from Earth, ponder this... Imagine there were lifeforms on a planet travelling around one of the stars in M31 that were capable of viewing Earth. They would be witnessing life on Earth during the Lower Paleolithic era. The first hominids on this planet were just learning how to use stone crafted tools. Crazy perspective there, huh?
