Description

Central part of the Perseus galaxy cluster (Abell 426). The centre of the cluster contains NGC 1275, a highly active galaxy. The strange shapes are filaments, remnants of the galaxies accreted into the central massive black hole. This object (Perseus A) is also a very strong X-ray emitter.

This image contains over 50 named galaxies (I counted 13 NGC galaxies and 42 PGC galaxies), with many more smaller unnamed galaxies in the cluster. I also posted an annotated version for comparison.

Added another version which has been stretched a little more - more to look at in the second version!
