Description

Giddyup! The Blue Horsehead Nebula is stabled about 400 light years away in an enormous molecular cloud complex in Scorpius. How big is it? This image covers an area of the sky large enough to fit the moon...140 times over. But don't bother looking for it with your unaided, Mark 1 eyeball. This thing is faint. Huge, but faint. And it sits very low on the horizon. I used the smallest telescope I own to provide the widest field of view, and then collected about 14 hours of exposure time over several nights to tease it out. That's a long ride.
