Description

We had about 2 hours of good seeing predicted last Saturday, so I decided to see what I could do with my old NexImage 5 camera. Once again, getting out early in the evening, before the onset of high level hazy clouds, really helped. Europa is at lower left and Io is at upper right.

I did not use the Focal Extender or any barlow for this shot because I was not sure how good the seeing would actually be and did not want to spend the time focusing twice. I used Pollux to get star focus, then moved on to Jupiter and later the Moon. With Celestron's iCap program the only way I know to focus is just to get the star to be as small as possible.

Gain was 27 and exposure was 1/106 sec. This is a stack of 1000 frames (best 50% of 2000), stacked and sharpened with Registax. Created a luminance mask in PI for a controlled brightness increase via Histogram Transformation.

Thanks for looking!
