Description

I am finally done processing my Geminids 2023 data captured with my full-frame camera. The data were collected over two nights (December 12th and 13th, 2023) under Bortle 3 and Bortle 2 skies. I captured a total of 2555x20 second exposures at ISO 6400 and f/2.8. From these, I selected the brighter meteors that were visible to my eyes, resulting in 228 meteors in the final image. The foreground is a single 3-minute long exposure at ISO 6400 and f/2.8, taken as the field was rising on the second night. The background sky is a stack of 90x20 second exposures selected from the subs just above the foreground. The meteor frames were stretched similarly to preserve their relative brightness. The foreground structures are known as the Trona Pinnacles, impressive geological formations that recently emerged in geological terms under the water on the bed of the now-dried-out Searles Lake in California. Some colorful airglow was visible in the foreground sky frame, and it was carefully added when blending the sky background and the foreground frames.
