Description

The mouth of the beast CG4 aka 'the hand of God' appears to be gobbling up stars and reaching for a little galaxy. In reality, it's a star forming gas region in the Milky Way about 1300 light years away. The little galaxy is huge and more than 100 million light years away.

I recently re-processed this object using Russell Crowman's new BlurXterminator plug-in for Pixinsight. Originally captured in a seismically active area in central Chile which made the stars blurred and bloated in good seeing conditions. So I was surprised and delighted this deconvolution fixed the stars and brought out more structure in the dust. Image acquisition by Peter Ceravolo using his prototype 280mm f/5 astrograph.
