Description

The Eskimo Nebula, which is located in Gemini, is a bipolar double-shell planetary nebula. It was discovered by William Herschel on January 17, 1787.  It's located about 6500 light-years away.

This image is presented at a pretty crazy 0.2 arcsecs/pixel.  The nebula is only about 48 arcseconds in diameter, and I wanted to bring out as much detail as I could.  I captured the image at 0.59 arcsecs/pixel, resampled it 2x in PixInsight, ran BlurXterminator, then resampled it about 1.5x again after full processing.  I compared doing BXT before resampling, or drizzling it to 2x (also 4x) and then doing BXT, but BXT worked best on the resampled version.  I also tried several permutations of deconvolution instead of BXT, but still preferred the BXT result. Most of the details I see in this image are present in the Hubble image, so I'm pretty confident that it's an accurate representation of the nebula.
