Description

This 2 panel mosaic shows the one of the most frequently imaged regions in the night sky. Horse Head nebula (also know as B33 or Bernard 33) is small dark nebula, while the Flame (designated as NGC 2024 and Sh2-277) nebula is an emission nebula. Both are located in the constellation Orion. The bright star near Flame nebula is Alnitak, the easternmost of the three stars that make up the Belt of Orion. Nestled between the two nebulae lies NGC2023 which is both an emission & a reflection nebula.
