Description

I finally had a chance to image this unique nebula. It's quite low in sky at my location, but after being able to image the  dolphin nebula I decided to  try this one. It is also an experiment in SHO, though probably not best one to use since it is mostly a hydrogen beta emission nebula. This is another one of those unique objects that has been created by the intense radiation coming from a Woilf-Rayet star in the center (like the dolphin nebula).  It's quite faint as it is nearly 12,000 light years away. so I spent over 9 hours on it.  I tested a few new routines (to me) for narrowband in pixinxight including nb normalization, and the forxx color mixing script, and then had to make some edits in photoshop and Lightroom to finish. It originally was quite red, probably because of the  strength of sii and ha even though it's mostly a hydrogen beta target  or perhaps an artifact of processing , since  I did try to equalize brightness of the three channels prior to merging together.
