Description

This image of M1, the crab nebula, was taken, in December 2007, from weymouth, Dorset, using an Orion Optics DX250 Newtonian reflector fitted with a SX MX5C one-shot colour ccd camera. It is the result of adding the best 90 x 60 second unguided exposures, taken over a number of imaging sessions. Image acquisition was achieved using AstroArt 3, which was also used for telescope control. Colour synthesis was performed on the individual images and a master L frame extracted from the resultant summed colour image. This master L frame was then background subtracted using the 'level' control in AA3 and slightly sharpened using a couple of cycles of Maximum Entropy deconvolution. An LRGB synthesis was then performed using a gaussian blurred master RGB frame. The image was then exported into PixInsight LE for curves and levels manipulation and gradient removal using 'Dynamic Background Extraction' mode. The image was saved as a Tiff file and finally exported into NEAT for slight further noise reduction and saving as a low-loss jpg file.
