Description

I first captured the Leos Triplet in 2017, and never came back to it. Recently I came across Rogelio's Leos Triplet and was blown away by the fact that the NGC 3628 (Hamburger Galaxy) of the Leos Triplet has a very faint tail that stretches far away outside of the galaxy. I decided to try and capture the same with my equipment and the relatively noisy CCD sensor KAF-8300 (or at least as compared to Sony chips or latest CMOS) and see how far I could get. I think I got the tail, but had to compensate a lot. As you can see, the rest of the image is a bit noisy. This is with about 14 hours of integration. Learnt a lot from this experiment and got a newfound appreciation of how faint that tail really is, and what kind of effort must have been put into getting the tail data noise free.
