Description

NGC4567/4568 are a pair of spiral galaxies seen at an oblique angle in the direction of the Constellation Virgo at an approximate distance of 60 Million Light-Years. These two are also known as the Siamese Twins or Butterfly Galaxies due to their orientation. They have small nuclei and bright knotty arms are their combined gravitational influence stir up the gas and initiate new rounds of star formation as they draw closer together, although there is no evidence of tidal streams and distortions associated with as yet an actual merger, and thus must be considered in the early phase of an eventual merger.
