Description

The Milky Way from Southern latitudes in mid-March to May is a breathtaking view. Although perhaps not as much as the Winter (~July), with the center overhead, Crux, Carina, Vela and Puppis, Centaurus and Lupus are the main constellations that present themselves in the view. This image also captured the late and setting Large Magellanic Cloud, low on the horizon. If you haven't yet travelled Down Under, the sky is definitely worth it IMO, and I strongly recommend it, especially in March-July period.

Due to the relatively low altitude of the objects, a gradient is visible in the bottom right side of the frame, coming primarly from LP from nearby town Itajubá, which really pollutes the southwestern horizon. I did as much as I could in PS, but it is still there. The lower left corner also shows a bit of horizon glow from farther away smaller citiies, on the Milky Way itself.

Post processing slightly different: Stacked and edited in Photoshop, using Auto-Align and Smart Objects Stacking. The result is quite noisy, as no calibration data is applied, but the I was fighting with the DSS stacked image, as it presented heavy gradients and a green cast that I couldn't fully solve in PS.
