Description

The Andromeda Galaxy lays 2.537 million light years away from earth, and is ~220,000 light years across. This is the nearest spiral galaxy, and the largest galaxy of the local group (Triangulum Galaxy, small and large Magellanic clouds, and a few others). With an estimated 1000 billions (one trillion) of starts it may contain twice as many stars that the milky way

The Milky Way and Andromeda galaxies are apparently getting closer to each other, then expected to collide in 3.75 billion years. While no one here will be there to witness it, this might result in the creation of a giant elliptical galaxy in time...

You can see Andromeda from the naked eye in moderatly darl sky conditions. Look in between the Cassiopeia constellation and the square of Pegasus constellation!
