Description

Venus in true HDR.

This shot is the culmination of last year’s Venus nightside hunting season, and took a heck of a lot of optimisation given the exposure differences between the two - the nightside being orders of magnitude times dimmer than the dayside crescent.

Usually, you have to overexpose the dayside significantly to detect the thermal nightside. Here on 23rd June I luckily had one capture in 1 micron light that exposed for the dayside crescent, making this HDR possible. Despite perhaps losing a touch of nightside detail, this HDR is certainly much more aesthetically pleasing compared to the previous process.

Here the (dark) high altitude terrain around Atla Regio can be seen near the limb of the planet. Hope you enjoy!
