Description

Messier 5

Taken over 2 nights, same day. The morning and the night of the 4th June. I'm delighted with the result, the seeing was quite good and I used my diffraction spike filter on the SCT to great effect I think.

M5 is located in the constellation of Serpens and was discovered in 1702 by Gottfried Kirch. It is one of the largest and oldest globular clusters to orbit the Mliky Way, being some 400 light years across and around 13 billion years old containing somewhere in the region of 300,000 stars.
