This beautiful and particular galaxy in the constellation of Canes Venatici was an interesting challenge for the DeepLab Team.
Its peculiar feature is its low surface brightness which makes it a particularly difficult subject to photograph.
The photo is the result of the work of the veteran LAB 1 and newborn LAB 5. Both observers mount a 12-inch RC scope.
The galaxy was photographed with the classic LRGB technique, but in addition the signal was integrated with a narrow band HAlpha interference filter which accentuated the areas of star formation and ionized hydrogen that are clearly visible.
In total, the two observatories have captured over 18 hours of photons that started 14 million years ago!
These photons started their journey when our species was not yet present on earth!
NGC 4395 is a very special galaxy. It is of the Magellanic type with a diameter of just 50,000 light years. In its bulge there is one of the smallest known supermassive black holes, of just 300,000 solar masses.
The galaxy is classified as a Syfert with an active nucleus and intense star formation activity.
This small but very interesting galaxy has given us its work! The post-production phase was particularly long and there were many challenges to overcome to make it an interesting subject!
