Description

This image was captured over six nights in mid-October 2023 with an ASI2600mm Pro through an Explore Scientific 127ED on an EQ6-R Pro mount.

The image comprises:

Ha:      109  x  180s
OIII:     131  x  180s
R:           20  x  180s
G:           20  x  180s
B:           20  x  180s

Total integration time was 15 hours. The image was processed in Pixinsight and tweaked in Photoshop.

This supernova remnant is estimated to be 9,780 light years distant and spans about 98 light years in diameter. It is very faint, requiring a substantial amount of exposure time to draw out even the most basic features. It took several processing attempts to bring out the filaments without ruining the rest of the image.

I would have liked to capture more data, but weather and the backlog of other objects I wanted to image while the moon was absent (there is never enough time!) constrained the effort. Still, I am generally pleased with the result - especially for an object I have never imaged before.
