Description

This object is a globular star cluster located in the southern constellation of Sagittarius, about 67,000 light years from Earth. It is one of the most densely concentrated globulars known and the single most centrally concentrated globular cluster Messier object. It is the second most distant Messier globular cluster and contains more than 400,000 stars. Because of its distance and density, stars in the core are not resolvable. The dominance of older, reddish stars in the foreground of the cluster looks unusual to me.
