LDN 1251 is an elongated east-west cloud on the eastern edge of the complex; Its comet shape suggests that it is in interaction with the great superboom caused by the supernova explosion described above in the "Structure" paragraph. Its distance from us has been determined in various ways and the cloud has been mapped to different emission lines, such as CO, SiO, NH3, HCN and others. By studying the population of young star objects, some authors have found a dozen Hα stars and a source of infrared radiation, from which an optical jet emerges, classified as HH 149. There are also two sources of thermal waves.

LDN 1251 è una nube allungata in senso est-ovest sul bordo orientale del complesso; la sua forma a cometa suggerisce che sia in interazione con la grande superbolla causata dall'esplosione di supernova[68] descritta in precedenza nel paragrafo "Struttura". La sua distanza da noi è stata determinata in vari modi e la nube è stata mappata a diverse linee di emissione, come il CO, il SiO, l'NH3, l'HCN ed altri ancora. Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
