Description

20220128 - Moon 19% - A new dawn, after a dark night\

What’s in the picture(s) - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apollo_1
A waxing crescent moon, after the dark night of January 27th.

But not as dark as 55 years ago …

On January 27th 1967, Apollo 1 was on the launching pad for a test run, intended to be the first lunar-shot by NASA, to be launched on February 21st.

The mission never flew … a cabin fire during the launch rehearsal test at Cape Kennedy Air Force Station Launch Complex 34 killed all three crew members - Command Pilot Gus Grissom, Senior Pilot Ed White, and Pilot Roger B. Chaffee - and destroyed the command module (CM). The name Apollo 1, chosen by the crew, was made official by NASA in their honour after the fire.

In honour of those three people, and the countless others, that were pathing the way for mankind towards the moon and the stars …

What was the experience
This was the moon, captured at the dawn of January 28th. These are my early days at doing lunar imagining, not without flaws. There are still some artefacts in the image, the eastern rim is somewhat overexposed, and some odd ‘black-points’ on the lunar surface. I’m just processing this ‘on the eye’, by trying out the HDR and LocalHistorgram functions in PixInsight. Not perfect … Would be grateful if someone could tell me what parameters to use with aTrousWavelets (PixInsight) or RegiStax.

How it was done
Scope: TS-94 APO (FL 414mm)
Mount: EQ6-R Pro
Camera: ASI2600MC Pro
Filter: L-Enhance
Photons: 20220128 07:38 20ms Gain 299 RAW8 2066 frames 50% stacked
Processing: AutoStakkert, PixInsight (Mac)

What have I learned from this
Every problem, is an opportunity to learn …
We learn from our mistakes, and the sacrifices others have made before us …
But … I also know that, by being creative and learning, I will be able to move forward … to the  moon and the stars 🌘✨🤩

Clear Skies everybody! 🤩✨🔭
