Description

M 37 (is also known as NGC 2099) is the richest open cluster in the constellation Auriga. Has roughly 500 stars with 150 stars brighter than magnitude 12.5 and is one of the finest of the class of open clusters. It is estimated at 4,500 light years from earth.It was discovered by Italian astronomer Giovanni Battista Hodierna before 1654. French astronomer Charles Messier indendently rediscovered M 37 in September 2, 1764.
