Description

The Soul Nebula is an emission nebula located in the constellation Cassiopeia about 7500 light years from Earth. To me it appears as a ghostly apparition of a small child with the head in the upper left in the photo below -- the body contains an open cluster of stars (IC1848) and the nebula is often referred to by this cluster identifier. This nebula is close in the sky to the Heart Nebula I posted earlier -- the two are often mentioned together as "Heart and Soul."
