Description

This photo shows 2 objects I've seen only one other time paired and called out in a single image.  On the lower left is planetary nebula Ou 2 - PN-G 120.4-01.3.  Shown in the upper right is the diffuse emission nebula Sh2-173 -- often referred to as the Phantom of the Opera nebula.  Both objects have extremely faint signals in the broadband RGB channels.  The PN has a strong signal in O3 and is visible in H-alpha.  Sh2-173 is primarily visible in the Ha and S2 channels.  Ou2 was discovered in 2010 by Nicolas Outters, a Swiss amateur astrophotographer.  Sh2-173 was discovered by Stewart Sharpless and appeared in his 1959 nebula catalog.  The narrowband channels of this rendition are presented in an HSO color palette.
