Description

Oh, what a difference dark skies and high end gear can make! Contrast this with my prior attempt last week. This was done with rented time at a remote control observatory in New Mexico under pristine skies, with a Takahashi 150mm fluorite apochromat scope ($11,000), on a Paramount tracking mount ($14,000), with an SBIG 2 MP ST2000CXM color CCD ($2500), with a remotely control dome. 18 frames of 5 minutes each with my standard processing applied. NGC 891 is 30 million light years away, in the constellation Andromeda. Its apparent diameter is about 1/3 of the moon.
